Wall designs
Solid timber
A simple yet effective wall design. The timbers are sealed with backer rod, and if desired by chinking. 8" thick walls of this type meet Yukon building code requirements.
Frame walls
In an effort to reduce thermo-bridging buildings have evolved from simple 6 or 8 inch "stick frame" walls to layered wall systems including outer frame, rigid foam layer with integrated vapour barrier, and inner frame/liner wall. The options of how to configure a modern frame wall are seemingly endless.
Rigid foam insulated solid timber walls
The best of both worlds!
We recently introduced a combination of solid timber wall combined with rigid foam insulation, combining advantages of various wall systems. This wall needs no vapour barrier and can breathe, yet it has an outer membrane sealing it from the elements. The timbers are insulated by a layer of rigid foam which adds R-value and increases the effectiveness of the timbers' thermal mass. This wall can be clad with any type of siding.
